Despite the fact that the storyline of the Fish Man Island has had some intervals that are interesting, it has also been a slow brewing one given the fact that the cast has been split and it has not had a lot of focus on it. The show has had some good stuff, especially when you look at some of the moments that the characters have had. However, it has also been balanced by some things that are not fun, for example how Sanji has been dealt with. All in all, the show has been offering a variety of things without any vision of point to it all. Above everything else, it feels as though it’s treading more water. On the other hand, the hints about Arlong and the others make it a little fun and the shoe seems to call back to that very storyline again.
Things are solidified by the introduction of Hordy Jones as the new leader of the Fish Men pirates. Things are made more fun since it is now bad to rally around the reminiscent of Arlong especially since he uses drugs to boost himself up. When you really get down to the root of the matter, you will realize that Arlong was goofier than anything.
Here, Hordy is reflected as a bad ass, which does a nice thing of setting up for the down line, since the series wants to place its focus elsewhere. The subplots and tweaks in the series just make things a lot more fun, which rhymes well with the theme of the show, since it has always been known for being funny. In the beginning, the arrival of Neptune has some bad portents. However, it later turns out to be fairly amusing, especially when he invites the Straw Hats to the Ryugu Palace. This is because; this invitation puts all those undersea in awe and does not make sense to most of the crew. This is especially because; the palace is the holy place of the sea and it is also the place where Neptune lives with his family. Therefore, being invited to this place is a great honor. The episode also shed some new light on the Straw Hats. Luffy on the other hand is flippant about the whole thing, which is quite expected, since this is how his style works with the king of seas. At this point, Luffy’s reputation is big at this point and having interacted with various people over the years, it is extremely hard to imagine that the details of his personality have not made it this far.
